Quote (Max @ Dec. 10 2004,01:59) | Would anyone out there be willing to try their hand at making a CAPTIVE NTFS .dsl. They seem to have it working in KNOPPIX distro. I didn't see any kind of deb already packaged though.
I've created some simple .dsl's direct from debs, but this one looks WAY over this newbie's head. Looks like you have to create a special user and group and also some directories, etc., etc...
But, it would be great to have a .dsl that you could easily load to be able to write NTFS. Lots of application in the corporate world (the company I work for has 40,000 XP systems installed). We can win them over 1 convert at a time.
Imagine booting from your DSL CD, loading Captive, and then actually repairing a crapped out Windows system (installing a missing or corrupt driver, editing the registry, etc...) I'm sure that would get a few jaw drops from the IT support folks. Their solution lately to almost any system error has been to "re-image" the machine. |
Yah XP and SP2 dont mix..I have had nothing but problems with it and I guess the IT guys feel that the quickest fix is to re-image (noone said you had to have brains to be an IT guy hehe)

You are kidding right...XP and corporate security and stuff requires NTFS, fat32 cant do the fileprotection/security of NTFS 5.0 that XP has...
