Hi!
Yes the topic title says it all! The higher dimensions of geekness i belive includes support for c64 music. XMMS-sid (Around 260Kb), simulates the c64 soundchip, the sidchip, very well indeed, and the sound of commando, ghost and goblins, last ninja, delta, wizball and all the rest of the classics makes my linuxsystem smell retro oldschool. Techno-ish stuff and electronica in all tastes is still being produced on the c64 and it sounds *alot* more groovy and skilled than it did back in the 80s. Try out some composers like Taxim, Grg, Agemixer, and Sonic. The chip songs are usually around 5 kb small and at http://www.hvsc.c64.org/ you can choose between 27.653 different sidchip-tunes. If anyone knows how to make a .dsl for xmms-sid or Xsidplay i will spread the word in the worldwide Commodore 64 community and welcome them to the wonder of DSL.

Take care/
Björn

The C64 emulator VICE would also make a awesome .dsl

Thousands of free games demos/intros and 8bit mayhem!

Check out:
www.gamebase64.com for games,
www.demodungeon.com for demos/intros, and

Hi!

I've done some research, there is a very small console sidplayer that i found in apt. Its name is plain "sidplay".  However it is no fun to type sidplay [NameOfSidfile.sid] everytime just to hear a song. If the sidplay.dsl package would associate emelfm with the sidfiles however, then DSL would have sidchip-support for the cheap cost of only 119 kB of ram (The .deb package is 30.6 kB).

The Xsidplay is however lightyears above in comfort, ability and options, It is really great, Take a look at the screenshots at freshmeat or at their homepage. http://freshmeat.net/projects/xsidplay/
The .deb package for Xsidplay is 219 kB.

The cool thing about sids exept from the brutal sound (speaking of the sids made during the last 5 years) is the minimalism in size. The zip file at HVSC with the 27.653 tunes inside is just 48.9 MB small! Imagine the size of 27.653 Mp3s.

Hey Tronik!, Which community? The undefined worldwide one! I was into the scene on amiga (Hmm, how about a modplayer in DSL by the way :D )not the c64 if that is what you wonder. Maybe you knew about D-mob. In the town of the university im at there is people from Fairlight and Triad. Everyone remember them if they are over 25 years of age and had a Commodore i belive.

Its always nice to hear that there is other people that is into blipblop music!

Take care/

Didn't you forget Cybernoid II?  I've spent many happy hours listening to the theme song (much to the dismay of everyone around me)...  Now, a myDSL for all those songs would be wonderful!
