I have no working sound card, and don't know the first steps
to take to determine which sound card exists, and
how to configure it to work.  Any help on this?

For ALSA...I read the directions but none seem
to make sense and/or work.
1. Start up DSL with the "dsl alsa" boot command.
  boot command image doesn't exist..
2. Install the gnu-utils.dsl myDSL extension.
I used the DSL Download Extension Panel, and
used the System button and downloaded this file
but don't know what to do next....

3. Install the dsl-dpkg.dsl myDSL extension.
  ditto
4. Install this extension alsadebs.dsl
 How?
5. Choose "Install ALSA" from the myDSL menu
Is the download extension panel == myDSL menu?

As you can see, I am a newbie, and need some help
to kick the M$ addiction, and bad habits. Thanks!

Hi Fuzzhead!

To install dsl extensions just open up emelfm. In the middle you see a lot of buttons and at the top a mydsl-button. Look for your extension, highlight it and click on the mydsl-button. That shoul load the extension. Hope everything works out!

Have fun,
meo

If you use the "Download extension panel", then your extension will automatically be installed for you.

However, the program will usually not get "launched" (IE: started up), until you choose it from the myDSL menu.

The myDSL menu is a new submenu named "mydsl" and it is added to the main Fluxbox menu (kinda works like the "Start" menu in MS Windows).

You can access this menu by Right-Clicking on any blank area on your computer desktop wallpaper.

Sorry guys, I don't have it working yet....

I get a dialog box "Couldn't open audio"
1. ...correct plugin
2....blocking...
3. .... soundcard is configured properly...

I downloaded gnu-utils, dsl-dpkg, alsadebs...
I used emelfm, and myDSL button for these
three.  but I don't see anything within
the desktop-rightClick-myDSL menu....

Any ideas?

I don't see the menu item either. This one may have not gotten updated with 1.0. From a console type

/opt/alsadebs/install_alsadebs

I think that's right. You can go into opt to find the exact script name. That should get alsa setup.
