I have an install of DSL on the exact same pendrive running for 6 months now and have had no problems yet. As far as not being able to save a file from beaver, make sure you set the permissions right for the folder you are saving it to or if you are modifying a file use beaver as super user. i.e., from terminal "sudo beaver /path/to/file" - from desktop, just right-click on icon and choose "Beaver as Super User" - from Emelfm right-click desktop icon and choose "Emelfm as Super User" or from Emelfm as dsl user, browse to file > right-click on file > choose "open with" and type "sudo beaver".
