My 2 cents about the VWplayer + the dsl image: I tried that on: Win Xp, 128 RAM, 800 MHZ. It took about 35 mins to install the vwplayer, it runs more or less as fast as dsl + the kqemu accelerator (that's good stuff indeeed), it is not portable, that is it does not make sense to install it onto a memory stick as it makes a lot of changes onto the registry. Conclusion: I'll stick with dsl+ qemu + kqemu.
By the way: on the above machine kqemu gave me at least 2-3 times acceleration
