It runs slow due to the fact that it uses a common gateway interface written in Perl... Perl needs to compile before running.

May also be due to server conditions as well; bandwidth limitations (like a 56k connection). ???

Anyway, I second that motion. Not just this forum, but pretty much all DSL web pages load slow... And I'm using a T1 connection.

Additionally, this forum may be running slow due to the 'digital handshake' that the forum makes with DSL (for user login).

Perhaps if the forum wasn't coded to let only DSL users login, then it might speed up some.

poppe: That might be the case if the slowdown was consistent, and persistent. However, the most noticeable drop seemed to have occurred over the course of only a week or so, around the time this thread was started, and was not apparent during certain parts of the day.  It was also apparent on other operating systems.  Since that drop in performance seemed to have occured for only a brief period of time (i haven't had any trouble in nearly a month), I'd say cbagger was probably right about it being a temporary spike in traffic.

Doesn't that 'digital handshake' qualify as a 'denial of service' attempt?

...Why?! when not everyone gets their Internet setup right away with Linux?
