My tiny ThinkPad boots dsl from hdd and then stays in ram. Could you modify the mounting tool for hdd to powerdown the hdd when it's not mounted? Or there could be a powersaver button to disable hdd power, and if the hdd is mounted and I wan't to write on it, then powerups automatically, or by my hand somehow... My TP is working for 2 hours without hd, and 15 minutes with it.
