I know there is a remaster thing, but it would be kewl if you could create a script that compiled a kernel and created a bare minimal install (i.e. just the hardware autodetection scripts miniroot and a shell, possibly also a package manager) .

It would be good if you could also add some options from a booted system save file so it minimizes the drivers included for a specific target system.

It seems to me that this would be a great help to not just your project but many others as it would create the ultimate minimal base install. The fact that its a script to enable source compile would mean simplified porting to other systems such as the post that mentioned the ipaq.

p.s. kewl to see you selling mini itx i love those systems, soooo silent.
also checkout soundproofing
if you want to quieten those larger noisy PC's

regards and good luck with the project

I think one of the great goals on DSL is "Take your computer anywhere (with a usb memory stick)".
So if you only have drivers for your own machine... the "portable" item will be lost.

Your thought would be good for a hd install but... how much space would you save? Is it worth?

No offense... just the DSL Soul

Try the Debian Netinst businesscard cd.

I think you will like it.

It lets you start out with the kernel, bash, and apt. You only grab the other thing you need. Just enter the "expert" or "expert26" cheatcodes at boot.

I strongly reccommend the daily build, because it has fewer bugs, and more features.
