You are close to nirvana...
Once you move onto the storage media, You will want an install that has as little write activity as possible. ( Writing to SD/CF/USB repeatedly kills the media. )
So, rather than use a full HDInstall, explore the frugal HDInstall. Similar features, runs completely in ram as an option, and upgrading is as easy as replacing the one /KNOPPIX/knoppix file! You lose nothing.. All your settings, customizations, and backups are retained.
