Hi, mplayer is good but also HUGE... Since many people use DSL on low-end-machines they won't be able to play movies or anything bigger... You may try some mpeg-movies on your XMMS since it has an mpeg-plugin. Even when scaling down frequency and bitrate you need real cpu-power to decompress it... And to just use it for very small movies or music - well xmms does that fine IMO. Just my thoughts about mplayer and DSL.
