If the CF drive is hooked to a IDE-CF adapter, it should look to the system just like an IDE drive. And it must be plugged in prior to booting. You can put the CF on an IDE adapter, copy the /knoppix directory to it and it should boot into DSL. Just like when you do the USB boot. I use the USBBoot.img on a floppy and put the DSL /Knoppix directory on my USB stick and it boots! Newer hardware wouldn't need the floppy unless the CDrom has a hard time reading burned disks and/or booting to CD. Some old CDroms are like that.
