Hello
As you can see I am fairly new here, though I have read a lot of posts. Anyway what I am looking for is small OS...I think DSL would work fine, but I need a few changes made. I was wondering I anyone would either be willing to do it or could tell where I could go. While my funds are somewhat limited I would still be able to pay a few hundred dollars. Could anyone tell me what is a reasonable price?

Here is the changes that need to be made:

the right click menu option will have to be changed.
root access will have to be denied to users....so that they cannot harm/change the OS.
OpenOffice will have to be installed.
A web server, mysql, PHP would have to be installed
The Desktop should have shortcut keys to open programs
An issue that I have with an IDE Compact flash drive would have to be resolved.
Would it be possible to have script that automatically mount/unmount  disks.
Could it detect plug and play devices such as Cd drives, etc.?

I would sincerely appreciate any help that anyone could give me.

If the DSL system is run from the CD, then it cannot be changed, in that one can
reboot and start over brand new if changes have been made. Meanwhile, lots of changes can be made.
---
Also, I cannot understand the change needed for the right click for the menu.
Apparently, you might want that disabled, so there is no menu accessable.
---
All of the changes you require would mean the DSL distro would have to be
remastered, although some of the items you want added can be added with
DSL extensions. I am sure others can post here with the particulars (details) on
that.
---
(Just making some comments on this thread, not volunteering to do the remaster)

-The right-click menu is very easy to change. It's the file:
   /home/dsl/.fluxbox/menu
If you open emelFM, and press the "H" next to the /home/dsl you should see the hidden files (.fluxbox/ is what you want). Then just double-click on it, then on menu. If it asks for a command, put in Scite. Then you can edit the menu

-Go to the myDSL repository to install OO.o

-To change the desktop, go to /home/dsl/.xtdesktop/
That is where the links and images for the links are stored for the desktop. You might want to check one out, again using Scite. You can change the properties and change the filename and make your own shortcut. Remember to include an icon. You may have to reboot the desktop or the computer to get it to show up.

-The web server should be able to be enabled on the Damn Small Control Panel. I believe OO.o has mySQL capabilities, but I havent checked that out. Im not sure about the php either.
edit: SQLite, is already installed in DSL. I have no idea how good/useful it is.

-I dont think plug and play devices should be a problem as long as they are plugged into the system before booting up.

Im not sure about the other stuff, but check around on the forums. And are you looking to make this a remastered liveCD or just change some functions in an HD-install?

As far as funds, Im assuming thats for hardware? OO.o likes a lot of ram (384 mb I think, but I've been able to run it with 64 mb) and you might want a nice sized hd (although I run off a 2 gig). Check around on the forums for instructions on how to remaster liveCD's.

Would need to know more about the IDE Compact Flash issue you're having. Also, are you after an installed version or a live cd version? How much hdd space are you looking to use, same question for RAM (as others have mentioned, OO.o will want a decent amount of both). I'll presume you'll want it to install to the IDE compact flash and run from there?

If the IDE CF issue is something I can figure out, I'll do it in exchange for an Epia MII-10k, or an XBox :)

Send me a private message or an email via this forum if you want to talk more.

sorry that I didn't make one point clear...This is for a Hard dirve install

This is the equipment that we will be working with.
penituim 2 processor 350 megaherz
128 MB Ram
2 GB Hardisk.

No I will be able to pay for the software in addition to hardware.

The compact flash issue is simply that it does not show up in fstab
