you could comment out the open root shell from the .fluxbox/menu entry to stop opening a root shell but there would still be the option of doing a sudo command, your best bet would be to set up as a multi user system and have password protection otherwise there is no promp and the sudo command will allow root access, with multi-user loggins even if they use sudo nothing will exec without password......
hope this points you in the right direction

Are you mounting the compact flash disk? You'll probably have to in order to use it. You said it's an IDE device so im guessing it would be something like /dev/hdc   . Im not sure though, I've never checked DSL out with CF.

If you want to set up that computer as a web server, you're probably gonna want to make sure you have a static IP address from your ISP.

It is not availible in the mounting apt. Neither does it appear in fstab. So I think that it is not detecting it at all.

I am setting it up as a web server not to host web pages but so that I can run aria...the accounting software.

It's possible that the compact flash drive isnt supported by DSL. I'd check out Knoppix 3.4 and see if that will support it. However, you have old hardware, so Knoppix may take a while to load. If 3.4 does support it, then there's a good chance DSL 0.8 will support it.

just a thought..... is the  flashcard pluggin before booting as that is the only time things are auto-detected, this may be teaching to suck eggs but I have wasted hours trying to do simple things but missing the most basic of points....
