For some people with very old computers or with limited RAM, having the icons and other enhanced apps automatically start up will break their system.

I think the first and foremost priority ought to be to get 2.6 in. With more hardware support out of the box, this could help out (tho I'm not sure how much). Also the fact that it is a lot zippier (has a lot of read ahead stuff, my friend has it and said it is so much faster than 2.4) makes me think it is a prime candidate. Considering DSL is used on a lot of older computers, I think just about anything that can be reasonably done to speed up the distro should be done.

Would it be possible for you guys to add stuff into or find an all in one browser? I can't configure my router from the text based one, but in the visualer one (can't member name) I just get a 401 error when type in 192.168.1.1.

Another thing-I think that the size should be limited to something like 75 MB in a year or two when it is really needed. As long as something is essential or very useful and it is presented in the most boiled down way, then I think the size should accomadate it.

But thats just my 3.7 cents.

Well, there are several problems with 2.6.
First of all, implementing 2.6 in the current DSL would be quite messy, and a fresh start from Knoppix 3.4 would probably be needed. It would also break support for some hardware; just check out the innumerable threads on www.knoppix.net regarding 2.6 and hardware detection failing.
Anyway, 2.6 doesn't have too many performance benefits for desktops - the improvements are mostly server-related.

hi,
keeping up to the latest kenerel and software may not always be a good idea..
Same goes with GTK...
or other apps...
Sometimes they get better but bigger as well and most of the times efficiency decreases (what is 'ok' since hardware usually develops faster than software).
It may be better for this small, efficient, low-end, 50-MB dist. not to 'keep up' . The latest Knoppix is to much of everything for my mainmachine almost. Its up-to-date. An uses what it gets.
Personally I do not always use the latest version of all apps. When Im comfortable and all bugs are squished - Im happy :)
Just a thought,
enthusi
