Personally I do not always use the latest version of all apps. When Im comfortable and all bugs are squished - Im happy :)

Excuse me for the tiny bit of soapboxing...
There is also the issue of significant performance drop when many applications jumped from GTK1 to GTK2.

Here is a short list of applications that have significantly slowed down  with the jump to gtk2:
gthumbs
gtk-gnutella
galeon (was a wonderful browser in the 1.2 days)
gnumeric
gftp
Abiword
gimp
(there are many more)

I find myself always wanting to grab older versions most of the time.  As a fan of lite applications I am hoping that either a revival f gtk1 happens (maybe a split?) or another lite GUI takes hold.

Maybe in a couple of years DSL will be mostly powered by apps made under  FLTK?
(yes, I am planning on this project being around in a couple of years)

Hopefully all the applications currently using GTK+1.2 won't change to GTK+2 either - Dillo shows signs of perhaps doing that... :(

If the developers are careful, they should be able to create a product that will compile using either GTK 1.2 or GTK2.0

For these applications, the user can decide at compile time whether or not to build it as a GTK 1.2 or a GTK 2.0 application.  My preference is GTK 1.2, particularly when using on older hardware.

The biggest problem I see is that the "official" packages for these apps could create dependency problems because you may want the "GTK 1.2" package, but the official package is a GTK2.0 version and installing it will result in the installation of a whole bunch of GTK2.0 libraries.

not sure if this has been suggested, but DSL should dump LILO for GRUB.

its easier to change the setup, and harder to break, and easier to repair if you do break it.

the lilo on DSL only installs proerly 2/5 of the time for me. and its not a bad iso.

i like lilo, but grub it just so much easier to work with.

EDIT: damn keyboard is dying...

They say if you play a Microsoft CD backwards, you hear satanic messages. That's nothing, cause if you play it forwards, it installs Windows.
