Hi colleagues and friends, I wonder if it is possible to install some lightweight SMTP, POP3 and IMAP4 daemons/servers to the installation? Would be great as an embedded server system for backup or redundancy purposes. On the same note, is it possible that there is some kind of open source load-balancing or failover script that can do MAC mirroring and automatic failover with this very neat small distro? Many thanks :)

DamnSmall will handle most Debian software packages that can be obtained by apt-get.  If you can find Linux-based server/daemon software that will fit your needs, check to see if this software is available for "Debian" or *.deb package files.

Otherwise, you will have to build them from source. Normally, building from source is not too much of a hassle for a full-sized distro, but for DSL it could take longer because most of your compiler-related software and associated development libraries are not included on the disk and must be installed manually.

So my advice to you is to try and find Debian packages that suit your needs and use them.
