In DSL the only timezone files supplied are US timezones. It would be nice if some other timezone files were supplied as DSL is used around the world (see this thread).

I realise that it would not be possible to include every timezone Knoppix 3.4 has due to space reasons. However the inclusion of some of the most common timezone files would be enough to cover the majority of users. I think at the very least it would be a good idea to include those mentioned in the knoppix-autoconfig script. This would mean that people who specify the regional settings with the lang= cheatcode won't come up against errors like

Code Sample
cp: cannot stat '/usr/share/zoneinfo/Europe/London' : No such file or directory

but instead would have their timezone correctly setup in DSL.

The timezones mentioned in knoppix-autoconfig are:

Code Sample
Asia/Shanghai
Asia/Jerusalem
Asia/Tokyo
Asia/Taipei
Europe/Berlin
Europe/Brussels
Europe/Sofia
Europe/Zurich
Europe/Prague
Europe/Copenhagen
Europe/Madrid
Europe/Helsinki
Europe/Paris
Europe/Dublin
Europe/Rome
Europe/Amsterdam
Europe/Warsaw
Europe/Moscow
Europe/Bratislava
Europe/Istanbul
Europe/London

These take up 92k and compress very well (8k compressed). If it is felt that 8k is too much room then some of the less commonly used US timezones could be removed (e.g. US/Hawaii or US/Aleutian)

I hope that 8K is not too big.  If things are that tight, then we are doomed.

Sounds like a good place for an extension. :-)

An extension is loaded at the end. But during knoppix-autoconfig the timezone files are already needed. So I think an extension doesn't work. On a hd-install I once downloaded a debian package to get the timezones. I needed them to use ntpd....
