I don't feel I can explain the backup/restore process ... it's best you research this part, and just try it. But I will clarify the last 2 lines of my instructions in the info file -
Boot with the boot parameters - mydsl=hda1 (where you saved the ipw2200-k2.4.31.dsl file) restore=hda1 (where you saved your backup) ... or sda1, or floppy, etc.
I tested this process myself ... I know it works.
Of course a very thorough solution would be to install and depmod the driver, then remaster DSL. The last time I remastered DSL myself, was about a year ago using the rather complex Knoppix instructions. I think there's a more streamlined process now, invoked from a script somewhere in DSL's filesystem.
