A deb file might work. Honestly, I think it would. You'd have to get it from testing or unstable (I'd recommend testing, especially for a kernel), because the one in stable is 2.6.8, and you said you needed 2.6.9+.
I agree with hats about DSL-N though. I also needed a 2.6 kernel, and was stoked to discover DSL-N. DSL-N has 2.6.12.
I would recommend installing DSL-N over hacking DSL. If you try the deb though, post back here and tell us if it worked.
