With Xorg 6.9 I used kernel driver i830 and Xorg driver i810..
And with 7.2 changed to i915 but Xorg driver is still i810..
My chip is 830M and I had DRI working with both cases (compiled Xorg myself in both cases)

News from the intel front: which intel driver for Xorg you used? Which version does it show in Xorg.log.0?
As the default one, 1.6.5 has a bug of giving errors "not able to allocate memory" even though it can. The current one for 7.2 is 1.7.4 I think (using it now) but the new 2.0 series could also be used.

In the 2.0 series Xorg driver is renamed "intel" (but has a symlink from i810) and it no longer depends on video bios (fully programmable video modes on i830M and up) and has improved hot-plug monitor detection..

The cd is still in the mail to Roberts, I sent ^hats^ the file via ftp.

Maybe you could post your i915 (and associated drm) kernel modules to the repository "modules" section so I can try it/them out?

Nope, they are compiled in in a 2.6.20.14 kernel..

edit: Forgot to mention again. This is on my distro, I haven't compiled Xorg on DSL at all.. Or anything that big.

Could you check the i810 driver version?

Are you saying that i915 / DRI is included in Xorg7.2 and there's no longer any need to compile these seperately?  I thought this might be the case?

EDIT: To answer my own question - Google says a DRI capable driver has been included in Xorg since version 7.  So there should be things like r300_dri.so,  i915_dri.so etc in Juanito's equivalent of /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/dri/  or /usr/lib/dri

That might also explain why there's no updates to snapshots on the dri website, although was not there also some patent problem or something ...
