You need to be user dsl for installing myDSL extensions.  Not sure why it works that way but you will get the error you mentioned if you try and do it as root.

I am not sure how you have your system setup but the way I did my system I do not log into my system but just startup and come in as dsl user.  I think I setup as a single user (don't remember off hand).  But I would think that if you setup as multiple users you must have setup passwords for root and dsl and any other users. However, since you are logged in as root you can try and add a dsl user and passwd.  Right click the mouse a menu will display go to systems click and then click on adduser.  Fill in dsl as user and and give it a password.

If you are planning to use DSL, a good investment is the Mike Weber's book for getting started with the basics. A link is provide on the DSL web site.  A CD is also supplied with the book covering a number of topics.

I may have set up DSL user and not even thought about it as I was concerned about root. More than likely I set DSL (if it was an option) with the same PW as root. I'll reboot and check tomorrow and repoprt back.

I have to say thanks for the speedy reponse!

Time to get the kids to bed.
