I put together a VIA-5000 MINI-ITX computer running DSL 2.0 using a compact flash drive.  Completely silent.  This allows to the computer to stay on 24/7 and provide various services.  So I thought it would be nice to setup Skype on it and have an internet phone that is active all the time but for some reason I am not able to login.   I have setup a skype account using SuSE Linux that works from both my SuSE linux and a windows box.  But when I attemp login from the DSL box, I am able to connent but the login fails with a error code 9 (can't find that error number in skype documentation).  I am wondering if anyone out there has had any experience with this application on DSL or even running it on an ITX mobo.

I did try turning off my router firewall but this did not help.

Thanks,
David

This is an update of some things I tried, added for the purpose of documenting the issue.

I down loaded Skype on my son's DSL 1.5 Dell Latitude and was able to connect without a problem.  I placed one call but it got hung on subsequent attempts but this has nothing to do with the login problem so I will look into that later.

I also tried DSL 2.0 and DSL 2.2 Live on a AMD 2700+ EPOX mobo computer and I was also able to login into Skype.  I did not attempt to call anyone.

So at this point I am wonder if my problems might be related to the hardware platform (EPIA-5000) I am running on althought the login failure seems to be an unusual failure for platform issues.  I think the next step would be to reload my EPIA box with DSL 2.2 to see if reverting to an older kernel can help.  I do not have much confidence in that solution as DSL 2.0 works with Skype on my AMD box.

I did a little googleing and the first thing I came up with is that error code 9 is an apci error. Try booting with the dsl noapci cheat code.

doobit - Thanks for the suggestion.  I tried adding noapci to the 2.0 lilo.conf file and reboot the box.  This did not help but then I decided to try DSL 2.2 with cheats of noapci and norestore and that allowed me to connect and login.  I placed a call to my answering machine at work and got the recording so it seems one or a combination of these items did the trick.  As a side note the quality was not that great but this VIA board is there lowest end board that they sell so I would think by spending more money for a higher quality mobo you could get better quality.  I will spend some more time testing this and see what happens. Thanks again for the suggestion.

I'm glad you got it going anyway. I've got a CL6000E board that I put in a lunchbox. You can see it here: ( http://www.louddata.com ) I'd like to get skype going on that too.
