You're going to mount it in /mnt, not /dev.

With the pendrive inserted, type (and paste back):
fdisk -l

(Lower-case L.)

That's your reason...  Check `fdisk -l` like lucky13 suggested, and there may be some hints in `dmesg` (this problem may be similar to another thread...)
