alright, I got everything up and running, and got Synaptic running purrr-fectly. I have this one lingering question though. What is the difference between a myDSL package, and a deb? I know how to make a deb (enough to get by I should say, I use dh_make to basically do it for me...). How would I convert the deb to a dsl package? Is DSL even derived from deb?
And (sorry if I'm asking too many questions) I want to get LimeWire installed. I downloaded the RPM and aliened it, and it says I need locales. I download locales, it says I need glibc. I have a feeling this is going to recurse, so I added my Ubuntu repos (assuming they'd work) to the sources.list. I figure, as long as I only use them to install these packages, it'd be OK, and I'll remove them later. But now I get an error when I apt-get update:
Code Sample | E: Dynamic MMap out of room [blah blah blah ca.archive.ubuntu.com....] E: The status file could not be parsed or opened

any ideas?
Edit: I'm also having problems with LimeWire. I have it installed, but when I try to open it (type limewire from the terminal) it tells me that the JAVA path is wrong (cannot find java, check your path). I know I have to do some symlinking because DSL installs java to /opt instead of /usr/java. So how do I go about symlinking, and putting together the java path?
