Well, I installed USB-HDD to my Cruzer-mini 256 USB drive after booting from the LiveCD on another system.  I made a new boot floppy for USB as you mentioned but now the system just sits when it attempts to detect the USB device.

Specifically I see,
-----------------------
Found USB device(s) handled by usbcore.o.
Probing USB...usb-uhci.o
-----------------------

My usb drive doesn't appear to be active (the activity light is not lit) and the system just sits at the probing step.  I've started with the USB disconnected and connnected before the probing step.  Any further help on how to use the USB pendrive?

Finally got it to work.  For some reason the floppy didn't seem to be loading correctly or I was having a conflict when my CD drive was connected.  I'm not really sure but now I've got DSL up and running!  Thanks for the help all!

Try adding the following cheatcodes to boot DSL from a CD drive connected via PCMCIA slot:

dsl ide2=0x180 nopcmcia

Works for me on an old Sony 505FX.
