admit I am a newbie myself so hope someone else reads the post to help you further..I do not want to send you on a goose chase as they say..I am sure its a solveable issue..good luck : )

adding..are you sure you are choosing "cdrom" or are you choosing "/mnt"..when you go to /mnt and then mount cdrom you will get that message...if you choose cdrom, right click and click mount you should be able to see content...you may not see content for commercial music cds..but as you say the cd is working...
