Still new to Linux but love this DSL distro. I have installed to HD on a system(with the Forums help) but need help with two other systems I am working on. I tried to do a frugle install to hda2 and everthing went OK but the machine still boots to Win2000 on hda1. No visible Grub. This is a desktop at home. Thats one problem, but on my laptop it is the reverse. I installed Kubunto on hda1 and DSL on hda2 and DSL run great but doesn't now see Kubunto and I can't seem to change the menu.lst file as it is read only. I can see the file and edit but I can't save changes as I get the "read only file" error mesage. Kubunto did work first so that install is ok I think. Any thoughts?? Thanks Craig

In Linux to modify configuration files (as menu.lst file) "root" permission is required, so
Open Aterminal and write following commands:

sudo su
beaver

That launch the beaver text editor with root permission.
Using beaver open the menu.lst, edit it, and save the changes.

You can also right-click emelfm & run it as root, browse to menu.lst & view/edit it from there.

There are also two instances of /boot/grub/menu.lst in a Frugal install. One is in the image and is not ever going to be writable, but you don't need to write that one anyway. The other is in the ramdisk or a persistant directory, if you set it up to have one, and you can write that that one as root and it will save in the backup, if you set up your backup.
Also, you can and should save that menu.lst file to removeable media and put it somewhere in case you need it again.

Ok, worked on the laptop and fixed that grub problem allthough I now have a Kubunto problem. The grub lines I copied from the Kubunto install don't want to work in the DSL grub. You must boot from cd to edit the menu.lst file on hda1. No other way seems to work.  In Kubunto I am getting a "must load kernel before interd" error. I will work on this later. Any other ideas on the desktop win2000 booting before grub runs? I would rather not loose Win2000 if I  can help it. Thanks to  all for the help.  Craig
