I can't say this to be 100% true, but my experiences have shown that it's always good to have another linux system handy for an occasional fsck of the DSL root partition. There doesn't seem to be a way to check and fix the root filesystem from within the installed DSL, so JustoTech's idea is a good one. I generally fsck my DSL partition every few weeks from suse or slackware.

If you use ReiserFS version 3.x partitions to store your data files, filesystem corruption due to power failures will become a thing of the past.

It is also possible to build a custom frugal install that uses reiserfs for the base OS partition, but it is also easier to simply divide your base OS and your data into different partitions, with an "EXT2" partition for the base OS.

Since frugal is read-only, you shouldn't need to worry about filesystem corruption if your EXT2 partition is only used for the storage of the DSL compressed image file and of myDSL extensions.
