Thanks thr and kamaradski, Upon redoing my bios, there is not a Slave drive "D" which i am trying to find, which is where I installed DSL.   I re-installed DSL again slowly and carefully and come up with the same results - says it is installed, says lilo is installed, but when I reboot and take the live CD out it goes ahead and boots straight to Win98, no choice.  Bout ready to go out and kiss some frogs or something.  Thanks again ya'll.

Perhaps your bios is limited... You can physically switch the drives in their order on the cables (or even take out the windows one for now).

Or you can install lilo/grub to hda, Or even change the windows bootloader (ntldr).

Hi thr, Iwas reading a post by smag and was trying the same, only when I log in on the term and type in cfdisk, it comes up on hda with no way to change to hdb to partition and format for a new install.  When I log into terminal as root, how do I specify which HD I wish to partition????

cfdisk help page: cfdisk [options] device
so you can use cfdisk /dev/hdb

Great thr, I tried the same thing but left a "/" out.  I was able to see hdb and all.  I changed "boot" to hdb1 primary (ext 2) , I hope that was correct??? Altho my puutor still boots to w98.   Isn't there supposed to be a window with a choice of OS???
