That's an easy one. For your laptops' fullscreen, 800x480 with 24bit colors use this line:
root (hd0,1) kernel /boot/linux24 root=/dev/hda2 vga=808 nofirewire xsetup
Xsetup is just for the first time, after that remove it.
If you want another resolution, check here
Non-related tip: add any no-switches to the line for hardware you don't have. It will speed up booting  Like noscsi if you don't have scsi, or nofirewire if you got no firewire...
