You can alter resolutions within DSL using "Xsetup" or Try HD install again with your drive on the other machine but when the CD first boots up, you should get an initial screen with a boot prompt: Before pressing enter, type "fb800x600" .This should boot up at that resolution. When you hard disk install this setting should be remembered so that when you put the drive back in the original machine, it should automatically start at 800x600.
