Oh, wait...   NOW that you've got the OS installed on your box, and it's up and running,
you'll want to do these things quickly to make sure it's in top shape, and stays that way!!

[EDIT] Someone reminded me that I had left out  MANY steps to this method of madness..
Extra steps added as sub "A" entries .. [/EDIT]

1. Install motherboard drivers.
1A. Reboot
2. Install all new hardware drivers.
2A. Reboot many times
3. Install virus-scanning software.
3A. Reboot
4. Upgrade and update virus-scanning software.
4A. Reboot
5. Install spyware-scanning software.
5A. Reboot
6. Upgrade and update spyware-scanning software.
6A. Reboot
7. Install personal firewall.
7A. Reboot
8. Upgrade personal firewall.
8A. Reboot
9. Call to validate your user license key
9A. Reboot
10. Install service packs.
10A. Reboot many times
11 Install security patches.
11A. Reboot many times
12. Install all user software.
12A. Reboot many times
13. Upgrade all user software.
13A. Reboot many times
14. backup partition.
15. pray for no major hardware failures....
...if mobo=0 , repeat 1-14, as your backup may be useless..

No?  ...NO!!   ..NO MORE!!

ABSOLUTELY!  I'm laughing out loud!  ABSOLUTELY!  It's absurd the time that we spend to keep a W** box running when 99% that it's used for is web surfing and some light word processing and spreadsheets.

Well, I had a similar question (how to do frugal w. existing linux distro and GRUB bootloader) earlier. I did a frugal install as mikshaw, cbagger and stoneguy suggested it (Thanx, folks!) and it really blasts on my home PC (Celeron 600MHz, 192MB RAM) with the 'toram' option. Good to see it working like this!

Greetings!
