Hi there,

I'm looking to partition my server HDD. On my other dual boot machine (eg running win98se and mandrake 9.2) I have needed a 50MB /boot partition before the first 1024 bytes/sectors? on the HDD.

If were to partition my 20GB drive as below, would I still need this /boot partition at the beginning of the drive?

Part1: Win2K (NTFS ~1GB)
Part2: Files to be shared (NTFS ~18GB)
Part3: DSL HD install (~1GB)

Any suggestions welcome.

make the shared partition FAT32.

NTFS support on linux is flakey. writing to ntfs = loss of data about 45% of the time.

blame M$ for not releasing the specs for ntfs and making people reverse engineer it.
