Have a look at th FAQs on Linux Documentation Project, there may be a suitable FAQ in there. AFAIK, you have to install/register the modem with winodws, so to get its MAC/IP address, then you should be able to put the modem onto any machine. I have managed to the same here, usig my DSL install on my miniPC for a test.
