Hey Hey

Well, it seems that I un-learned how to connect to the Internet, as I was not able to do it since the weekend.  I know I do something wrong, but I can't figure out what.

I am running DSL 2.3 from a Live-cd. My modem is a speedstream 5200 from bell sympatico

Here's what I do:

I go to the control panel and click on netcardconfig.  I answer "no" to the question asked and go through automatic server authenfication.

After that, I run pppoeconf and go through the process.  I enter my internet access username and password.

Everything seems to be fine so far.

And when I type "pon" in a terminal, I get that message:

SIOCSIFFLAG: permission denied
/usr/sbin/pppd: can't open option file /etc/ppp/peers/dsl-provider: permission denied

What are your thoughts: Is it a username and password issue or  another configuration issue?

I think this is simply a username and password issue but Bell Sympatico do not support tech problems to Linux users.

Sorry to bother you folks with that, but an Internet connection is *really* useful
