DSL installed fine, but it can't seem to find my Speetouch 510 Ethernet modem which is permanently connected to internet. I've tried to connect using PPP to search Eth0 and Eth1 but it reports errors. I'm wondering whether my 'dsl noscsi' option at boot is affecting this. (I need to dsl noscsi otherwsie dsl crashes at boot time while searching for scsi devices)

Can anyone help?

What are the errors being reported?

I open DSL Panel, select PPPoE. A window pops up saying: "I found 1 ethernet device(s):\neth0\n\n Are all your ethernet interfaces listed above?\n(If No, modconf will be started so you can load the card drivers manually).\n\nOr press Ctrl-C to abort here."
If I press No, then the above message reappears. If I press Yes a window called "Scanning Device" pops up. It states "Looking for PPPoE access concentrator on Eth0" followed by another pop-up window called   "Not Connected"
This window says "Sorry, I scanned 1 interface(s), but the Access Concentrator of your provider did not erspond. Please check the network card and modem cables. Another reason for the scan failure may be another running pppoe process which controls the modem"
I do not know how I can search for other running pppoe processes. Thanks for any help you might be able to offer.

First up start firefox and type in http://10.0.0.138 you should then get a login screen, login, and select diagnostics make sure that your speedtouch is showing that its wan connection is ok.

If you can't get a login screen, then open a terminal window, type ifconfig and post your results.

Hi, I've tried to connect to http://10.0.0.138 from Firefox's address bar, but no joy - it can't resolve address.

So I ran ifconfig and got the following:

Apologies for image post rather than cut-and-pasted text, but am having printer problems in DSL, too!
