Mmm sorry guys but after a whole day and a half I'm giving up on any possibility to solve my problem myself so I need your help

I've installed DSL on a 1Ghz Celeron with 192MB of RAM and a 4GB HD. I've installed it to the HD, not a frugal install.

Anyway, I ran it from the liveCD at first and I was AMAZED at the speed and low resource usage of this distro. And it's also very good looking and damn easy to use.
I started with netcardconfing and gave "ok" to DHCP then I ran pppoeconf and entered my details.

The connection started.

After that I installed it. Since that I've not been able to connect anymore, not even booting again from the liveCD.

My card is recognized and the module loaded is the correct one (3c59x)

A "ifconfig eth0" command reports correct addresses.
The nameserver also is the right one (I also tried changing it but that didn't work any better)

A "ifconfig ppp0" shows that ppp0 is indeed active (and correctly addressed!) but that it doesn't transmit any packet

The modem/router shows that that PC is indeed connected as 192.168.1.4 (as it should be) (the router has no integrated firewall)

I tried disabling DHCP and inserting addresses manually and that didn't work

I have the latest stable version of DSL (2.4.16 kernel?) but I also tried the last RC1. No result.

I asked my nerdest friends and we didn't manage to get ahold of a solution.

What bugs me the most is that I've installed on the same PC another distro (Xubuntu edgy eft) and that s**t (they call that a light distro??) connected more or less immediately (using the same commands, netcardconfig and pppoeconfig)

Is there someone who has a clue of what could be the solution?

I have never used that script so just some guesses:

Is plug-n-play disabled on the card?
How about checkiing irq conflicts with the command

dmesg | grep -i irq

Try booting with the option

pnpbios=off
