I'm new to DSL... is KPPP the best way to connect a dial up modem connection?

Thanks

Not really.  Since it's a KDE application, you will need to install a whole big mess of dependencies in order get it running in DSL.
The built-in dialer seems to be fairly simple, although i can't say how well it works since i haven't succeeded in getting winmodem drivers loaded into DSL *grumble*.

I use the default configurer/dialer in DSL that is had by right clicking   then choose System>Net Setup>dial-up PPP,fill in the info and if you have a good modem that Linux likes you'll be all set.
