Hello NG,

some weeks ago I posted something about another wireless card and had found out soon that there is no hope that other cards will work. In your wiki was written that the Netgear MA311 would work.

Therefor I bought one of them at eBay and just built it in. The card is recognized. I can set its properties via iwconfig. Unfortunately there is no connection coming up.

AP still shows "44:44:44:...44". The Essid is saved correctly, but nothing else happens. I don't know what to do. Several website tell there is nothing more to do than build in and have fun:)

Well, here's what works with my MA311, I put this into /opt/bootlocal.sh.  May or may not work for you:

Code Sample

sudo pump -k
sudo  iwpriv eth0 force_reset
iwconfig eth0 essid NNNNNN mode managed key NN:NN:NN:NN:NN
sudo  pump -i eth0

I had VERY intermittent results until last week when I moved the iwconfig to BEFORE the pump.   It's been working perfectly since then.  I'm not sure that the iwpriv force reset really helps, tried it in desperation and haven't tried removing it.

Hope this helps.

Okay, I got a connection and IP adress from DHCP now. Surfing the internet is no problem anymore.

But, I have to say, this machine is going to be running as a router itself. I bought the card to use it in master mode.

Typing "mode master" iwconfig tells me this wasn't supported. Don't tell me the cards driver doesn't understand master mode!! I relied to your wiki, where the card is listed as "working out of the box".

I hope this was correct and is for master mode, too. Please give me hints.

Not sure I can help much.  There is some information on the Internet about using hostAP instead of the orinoco drivers in order to do this.
