For undefined mode #, boot with vga=<somehting> - your laptop probably has some different screen ratio.

I believe there was a spelling error before: just run frugal_install.sh
(you can type frugal<tab>)

I did pretty well the same thing on a Tosiba Tecra 8000 (133mHz, 64mb ram, 1 gig drive etc, no cd, no network, 1 usb).

I rigged up an external USB HD enclosure to work with a cd rom drive and found some drivers that would let it work in dos.  I reformatted the drive and copied the knoppix folder onto the HD and used the floppy boot disk that came in the DSL package.

You could also buy an adaptor that lets you plug a laptop drive into a desktop computer, i think they're usually less than $5 online.

hope it helps
