Do you mean I need to add "dsl restore=hda8" to my grub menu.lst line for DSL?  I have "restore=hda8" in there already.  hda8 is the partition my DSL is on.

If you have "restore=hda8" in menu.lst already, .xserverrc should be saved in backup.tar.gz

You need to perform a initial backup.
DSLpanel->Backup/Restore->   hda8  -> Backup

This will create the backup.tar.gz.

Once a backup is done, you don't really need the restrore=hda8 at all. The system would autoscan and find that there is a backup.tar.gz on hda8 and would restore it. The restore=hda8 just stops the autoscan.

Without an initial backup.tar.gz restore=hda8 has nothing to restore

Sorry folks but nothing is happening.  I make changes.  I backup. I reboot.  None of the changes are there.  I really can't figure this out.  When I log out to reboot, a message come sup saying there are unsaved extensions on ramdisk - is that the problem?  I don't know how to save these if it is.

The changes I make are to .xserverrc, adding my email account details in Sylpheed, and adding a bookmark in Firefox and Dillo.
