If you run 'Xvesa -listmodes' and you can see '1280x800' mode, you can edit .xserverrc file as resolution: '1280x800x16'
It depends on your video graphics chip. Can you tell me: Band, Model and video graphics chip? For me, it is 855GM video graphics chip. I am using 855Resolution for the 1280x768 screen. It works fine.
