Compaq Presario 1245
333mhz 64 ram
put in the cd and everything is normal while booting(black background , readable font)
then when its all done booting, everything goes light green and the text / icons go white and they aren';t totally defined so its almost impossible to read
i;m able to open shell or anything as long as i remember where it is.
any suggestions?
thanks

when you get to the boot prompt, you can try the various boot options. I have a different kind of laptop, but I have to use:

dsl fb1024x768

at the boot prompt, or I get the same kind of uglyness that you describe.
You can also try:

dsl xsetup

at the boot prompt, so when it's almost done and prompts you for seme setup, you can try frame buffer ( fb ) modes until you find what works.

Good luck!

Some laptops don't like 1024x768, so an alternative would be:

fb800x600

NOT

dsl fb800x600

Maybe 800x600 is too large for your monitor.

try:

fb640x480

and see if that works.
