The 'cannot allocate color' error has been discussed, and fixed in 2.0rc1 ..
To effect repair in 1.5, add the line ShadowColor: #000000 under the line " FontColor: #FFFFF" in your ~/.xtdesktop/xtdeskrc file.
This will fix the error in xtdesk, but only affects xtdesk itself.
It does not have any bearing on your other errors. Other than the feedback you see with the "cannot allocate color" output, this 'bug' has no effect on the rest of the system at all. Ignore it, and look elsewhere, for issues regarding extensions..
As for java, the only thing you should see different is a new directory called /opt/jre1_5_0 , which contains your java environment. There is nothing to " do " , or " run " , unless you require a java console.. The usual effect is to add java functions to Firefox. OPEN Firefox, goto yahoogames , open text-twist, or something similar, and see if it runs.. You should see some java logo, followed by the game itself.
