Mepis is good, but they have been a little slow to release the new version with a later KDE. Try Kbuntu and you can go right to testing the KDE3.5. The greatest advantage of DSL is, as Fuzzy suggested, it's light. The developers have done a great job of making it easy to use even with it's very small size, but you still need to know a little about the command line interface to optimize for your particular system. If you want to learn Linux from the inside out, DSL also has the advantage of transparency to the kernel. They've given you a nice set of simple tools to get almost any Linux job done in less than 50MB!
