  apt upgrade
Posted by: John - 02-12-2024, 07:33 AM - Forum: Help Section - Replies (1)

I did a bit of testing.  Before running an upgrade you will need to hold back the antiX package that will update the desktop application defaults.  If not it will override the default terminal, browser and editor so those menu items will not work any longer.  It will override without checking what is installed.

To avoid this open up a terminal and paste in this command:
sudo apt-mark hold desktop-defaults-antix

In the next alpha release I will make sure this is already taken care of.

  update upgrade
Posted by: dsl_mumbai - 02-11-2024, 01:16 PM - Forum: Help Section - Replies (2)

I have installed DSL on a 64Gb USB on SONY VAIO VGN SR290J purchased on the Year 2010.
DSL is working fine and fast enough.
Initial boot time is quite high even upto 10 Min.

I have a issue only after upgrade. The GUI termianl is missing after upgrade.

I had to re install DSL just to retain my terminal in GUI mode.

man command is available for limited (but useful) commands.

info command is missing, but not much of an issue on ALPHA mode of the OS

Did anyone else faced any similar issue, afer update / upgrade

Any response is appreciated

Using isohybrid to make a bootable USB
Posted by: John - 02-10-2024, 11:41 PM - Forum: Help Section - No Replies

You need to get isohybrid on the system that you are going to use to make your USB pen.

Steps:
sudo apt update
sudo apt install syslinux-utils
isohybrid dsl-2024.alpha.iso

After that, I just used the regular DD method outlined here:
https://linuxiac.com/how-to-create-boota...d-command/

I will have a script in the next alpha release of DSL 2024 that should do this for you.

  firefox, firefox-esr & sound (tl;dr: choose firefox-esr)
Posted by: John - 02-10-2024, 11:38 PM - Forum: Help Section - No Replies

If you are going to install Firerfox via apt you have the option of firefox and forefox-esr.  For simmplicity I believe most people will be happier with choosing firefox-esr.

If you want to use the firefox package there will be issues with audio because it works with PulseAudio instead of Alsa.
To overcome this in the term do:
apulse firefox

That will launch firefox with pulse emulation and give firefox sound.

This isn't necessary with firefox-esr, it will work with Alsa instead of PulseAudio.

  DSL 2024 Alpha
Posted by: gkaisersoze - 02-09-2024, 06:11 PM - Forum: User Feedback - Replies (5)

Loved and used DSL and DSL-N back in the day, excited to see it up in this new iteration and as I have used antiX for years enjoy the hybrid of both, thanks John! My issues currently (and I know we're talking -alpha- so not a full-on release yet) is Badwolf freezes on my old Thinkpad (without hard drive so using live usb). I installed elinks using apt and it worked flawlessly! Tried to also install Firefox, wouldn't install, neither FF nor Firefox ESR. Thanks for your excellent work Smile May the new DSL live long and prosper!

  Webcam and Fingerprint Device.
Posted by: meo - 02-08-2024, 11:41 AM - Forum: Help Section - Replies (2)

I can see in the VMWare bar that my webcam, a Realtech Integrated_Webcam HD, and the fingerprint device, a Shenzhen Goodix Fingerprint Device, are detected. Can those devices be enabled or are they just detected by the virtualization software(VMWare)?

  Today the Badwolf really excelled!!!
Posted by: meo - 02-08-2024, 11:25 AM - Forum: User Feedback - No Replies

How so? I decided to put it to the test today. First I turned the volume up in alsa-mixer and enabled java script. Then I headed to www.youtube.com, denied all the cookies and searched for my favourite tune Öppna Landskap (sorry for my Swedish (Open range or something it would be in EN) found it and played it without any hazzle at all. Truly remarcable as the distro itself; DSL 2024!

  fbdev, Badwulf,synaptic, xrandr
Posted by: McTea - 02-07-2024, 05:52 PM - Forum: User Feedback - Replies (3)

Hey,here are some Problems I am struggling with:
after installing with the xorg=fbdev parameter on the bootoptions I have an resolution of 480x800 on my EEE PC 4G,which is good. Unfortunately badwulf now only shows blank pages. This effect does not show when installing DSL with save videomode.
xrand, which I use in Antix to scale my screen with: " xrandr --output LVDS1 --scale 1.5x1.5" does not work in DSL.
apt-get update says :It appears that at least one file list is missing. So I am ve not shure if and how to upgrade my system succesfully.
Anyway, I have fun playing around :-) So John, it  is good you restarted this project, Thx.

Under Virtualbox mouse copy/paste not working
Posted by: KenUnix - 02-07-2024, 04:16 PM - Forum: User Feedback - Replies (1)

Under Virtualbox 7.0.14 after adding guest additions the mouse can not copy/paste.

However shared folders work. Hum?
