I have a DSL HD install on a P1 133 with 96MB of RAM, the hardware will not change on this box. I'm trying to speed up the boot process, I was able to cut it down quite a bit using the append options in lilo.
Can I bypass the "autoconfiguring devices.." process? is it needed for every boot? Like I said, my hardware will not change. If it is possible, can somebody tell me how?

thank you very much in advance.

Add the boot option "nohwsetup".

If you want to see exactly what's going on, have a look at the main bootup script /etc/init.d/knoppix-autoconfig.

Long bootup annoys me, too.

Thanks for the reply, I did try the nohwsetup in the append line in lilo, it did not work. The computer still goes through the green progress bar saying: Autoconfiguring devices..

Can somebody tell me if that can be bypassed please? this is a slow pc to begin with, I need it to boot as fast as possible.

Thanks.

It definitely works, I just tried it while booting from liveCD.

Is it possible that you amended your LILO configuration file, but forgot to run "lilo" afterwards?
