I raised the issue of default modularity when Robert posted the poll to gauge where the community were with respect to DSL's future (kernel version/upgrade, application upgrades, etc.). His response was that DSL had to be fully usable as a live CD.
Without getting into detail and thereby risking betrayal of confidences, I've continued to labor behind the scenes on a way to kill both birds (increased modularity and full usability as a live CD) with one stone. I'm convinced it can be done well. I don't know if it's the direction DSL wants to take, or, if it is the direction, if it's the right path/execution of it. Right now I have major time commitments with family and work, and my DSL priority is doing what I can to help Robert with 4.0.
