Use the backup / restore function and save your backup somewhere that is not read-only like a USB thumb drive, a floppy disk, or a hard drive.

hi ..

I've been using DSL for about 2 weeks now (using usb trackball).. been loving it !  I have a question though since this topic contains "mouse"...

the reason why I use my usb trackball is because the Laptop's built-in touchpad doesnt work on DSL ?  Are there any parameter to try to get this to work ?  My touch-pad also got 2 mouse buttons.

In my experience.. when I boot with no usb trackball... just trying to depend on the laptop's built-in touch pad..  the cursor stays on the bottom of the screen and thats about it.

Thanks!

As usual it depends on your particular hardware.
On my Sony Vaio, the built in touchpad with two buttons works just fine. I use the ps2 settings and 2 button mouse.
However, I have heard that some users may need to use the xfree86.dsl ( full X windows ) extension to get theirs to work.
It would possibly be helpful to post the output of
$ grep MOUSE /etc/sysconfig/knoppix
