Downlaod the whitebox.dsl file and install. It will let you edit the menu without getting dirty in the text file!  :D

Chris

but the programs will still be installed though wont they?  :(

This would be an awesome idea.  In a way like the original idea for Morphix.  Make Linux iso modular and that way multi-purpose for whatever the users need.  Look at how many custom Morphix distros there are now.  Tons.  If it is just a matter of dropping your favorite .dsl files into the iso, it's easy.

Time to trim the fat again.  If the build script could download or let you point to the directory with the iso, pick .dsl files from a list that is generated by doing htdig at the .dsl repository, then download and place them on the iso, then that would really rock!

I think we are already there. IMHO it is better to have a realy useful base system. And the base system is already smaller than any other Knoppix derived system. Then by selecting which extensions you want, you have a system your way. You set the size limitation, and made for your needs, whether it is a liveCD, a flash device, a usb device or the "old" traditional hard drive install.

Given the difficulty in buying credit card-sized CD-Rs in stores, it is likely that the more common "tiny" DSL storage medium of today is either:

(1) a 64MB flash drive OR
(2) a 180MB mini CD-R
or something even bigger.

Given that the "base" is under 50MB, that leaves room on even tiny storage medium for lots of *.dsl/*.tar.gz style additions.

And if you run out of room simply use a second CD for your *.dsl files or buy a bigger flash drive.  They are often sold for under $20.00US nowadays.
